| A Break into the Road leads the users into the
scene of low budget, underground music creators. The Flash-based project
creates an authentic atmosphere of a subculture with a creative mix of animation,
narrative and sound. The user takes on the role of an up-and-coming hip-hop
musician, given the chance to create a tune within a day to be performed
at a club that night. Creative decisions shape the outcome of the tune and
thus the narrative itself. The city is filled with sounds and rhythms such
as the underground train, a girl’s voice or small wind chimes on someone’s
veranda is the source of 'the sound of the streets'. Promising sounds are
recorded. Back in the music studio they are mixed down. Performing the composition
at the club is the moment of truth. If the crowd screams for more and the
'crowd-o-meter' hits the point the musician has really 'made it'. If not
he is sent back out into the streets, to collect new sounds. The challenge
to one’s creativity arises again for the next day.
