For most people today classical Opera
is too different from modern life to enjoy. They turn away from
the Opera stage and watch cinema or television. Some Opera directors
responded by using the images, metaphors and editing techniques
of cinema and pop-videos to attract audiences again. "Someday
On The Misty Island" now takes the challenge of how to make
Opera a more exciting and meaningful experience using multimedia
technology.
This Webeo - an experimental interactive music video - uses
a collage of influences linking Cinema and Opera, Literature
and Pop-culture, in order to create an on-line, interactive
fantasy story. "Someday On The Misty Island" interprets classical
Operas with contemporary visions, diverging from traditionally
accepted Opera principles. The story offers a series of larger
than life characters: an eccentric female reporter, grand-daughter
of famous Charles Foster "Citizen" Kane and six extraordinary
women with names such as Charlotte, Eboli, Delilah or Carmen.
This Webeo extends the boundaries associated with a music video
clip and creates a surreal interactive journey using the music
of Opera and pop-culture. |
