"The ToneLadders" takes a stepladder and turns it into an instrument. It is touch-sensitive, functional and playable. It provides an audio-visual experience, with great performance potential for live events and performance artists, simply by knowing how to use a ladder.

It uses futuristic real-time 3D projection with sensors, midi-interfaces, computer programming, real-time 3D graphics and wireless data transmission. The installation only requires a laptop computer for the audio sampling with a real-time 3D graphics control program, video projection and an amplifier with loudspeakers, as well as the all-important ToneLadder. The ladder is made up of multiple steps, which allows the user to select multiple samples. Players can also play together with other users and use different sides of the ladder to activate the music samples.

Using imagination and technology, "The ToneLadders" proves the potential, even in domestic tools, to create an entertaining multimedia project.
