In recent years problems have been highlighted surrounding the issue of effective communication between police officers when on patrol. At present within the UK Police Force officers communicate via hand held radios, only receiving auditory data, which is very limited by the standard of today’s multimedia capabilities. Many government commissioned studies have also highlighted an extensive problem with effectively utilising the time and efficiency of officers when on duty.

This report will analyse the current systems of communication between officers on patrol, and examine the various tasks that an officer performs whilst on duty. As a result determining areas where both the efficiency and communication of officers could be extensively improved.

Based on the key findings of the research, a prototype application will be designed and developed with a view to improving both the standards of communication and efficiency of police officers when on patrol.
